Apocalypse 5 ~ Review

Apocalypse 5
by Stacey Rourke
Coming Soon ... February 12, 2019

The end of the world is coming. How or when, scientists can’t agree upon. For decades, Earth’s best line of defense has been a team of young soldiers known as the Apocalypse Five, forced into virtual reality simulations to train for Doom’s Day. But, this is no game. Death on the grid is brutally final, and calls up the next in a long line of cadets. Stationed aboard the AT-1-NS Starship, the A5 are celebrities thrust into the limelight by a calling they didn’t choose.

All it takes is one unscheduled mission, showing seventeen-year-old team leader Detroit a harsh and unfathomable reality, to shake the A5’s belief in all they thought they knew. After questioning people with the power to destroy them, the team is framed for a crime they didn’t commit and marked for death. Now, the hunt is on. Can the Apocalypse Five expose the truth the starship would kill to keep hidden? Or, will their bravery end in a public execution?

Is it too soon to ask for book 2??, October 15, 2018
I fell hard for these characters! I love how they are all so unique yet each shines through their turmoil. And the loyalty they show to each other is the real deal!! Detroit, a true leader, had me rooting for her from the start. Auggie is one of my very faves even though Houston is absolutely swoon worthy. Benny & June though...their connection...oh my heart! (Btw...I love that they are named after characters in one of my favorite movies.) I felt like I’d trained along side them in that tight knit little group (which continually had me on edge during each mission), & there I was repeatedly laughing out loud at the snarky banter they tossed around haphazardly.

Honestly sci-fi is not my go to genre however Apocalypse 5 gave me all the feels! Be prepared to have your world turned upside down as this apocalyptic setting spins out of control, & all that we believed true is twisted & shattered in every direction. No spoilers here, but it does not disappoint! Action packed drama with just enough heat to sizzle through the near frostbite. And...depth! There was so much to enjoy, & then all of a sudden we’d find another gem emerge from the rubble. Seriously feeling sad that I finished this book already. It was too hard to put down, & now I’ll be biting nails until the next release.

First Life Excerpt Reveal

First Life
by Rose Garcia
Publication Date: February 21, 2018
Dominique has survived the final attempt on her life only to discover that someone
connected to her future will suffer her same fate. Determined to spare this innocent
loved one from being hunted for lifetimes, Dominique and her remaining allies travel to
first life with a mission to alter destiny. When Dominique and her companions arrive in
the past, they are confronted with a reality they didn’t expect, and are shocked by a turn
of events that threaten to change everything they know.
A prequel that starts where Final Death leaves off, First Life delivers heart-stopping
action and gut-wrenching emotional turmoil. Be sure to read Final Life, Final Stand, and
Final Death before delving into the unpredictable world of First Life.

Genre: YA Sci-Fi/Paranormal

Infiniti chewed her ghostly bottom lip as I stomped to the center of the room,
barking orders. “Dominique, get to the back of the room. Trent, come with me.” Trent
and Dominique stayed close, neither one wanting to break from the other.
“Oh my God, Fleet, they’re gearing up,” Infiniti said, her translucent form
alternating between being in the house and looking outside. “They’re putting on vests
and things.”
“We gotta move,” I urged Trent and Dominique. “Now.”
“Yeah,” Infiniti echoed. “Like, right the hell now.”
Trent planted a kiss on Dominique. “I’ll be right back, I promise.” Letting go of her,
he came over to me.
With no time to focus on anything but our mission, I gripped his hands.
“Concentrate on your energy. Think of the Boardman, think of the year 1868.” Standing
with Trent, a Supreme Transhuman with incredible yet unharnessed abilities, I had to
believe he could help me get to 1868. He kept glancing at Dominique. I gave his hands
a death-grip squeeze. “Listen, man, I need you to be right here with me, got it?”
He blew out, his stare fixed on me. “Got it.”
“Good. Help me get there, and I’ll get the job done. Okay?”
“Okay,” he answered. “And I’ll break our connection right before you time jump.”
“Exactly,” I said.
“Okay,” Trent muttered. “I can do that.”
I had no idea if he could do it or not, but it didn’t matter. We needed to act. With
my face cast down, I closed my eyes and pictured the Boardman River area in my mind.
Back in 1868 we lived in small, simple cabins—Stone and Caris, Dominique’s parents,
were in one cabin with Dominique. My brother Farrell, our friend Jake, and myself were
in another. There was also a third cabin for visitors. Traveling to a time and space I
inhabited would merge my current self to my other self. All I needed to do when I arrived
was find Tavion and kill him.
“They’re coming to the door!” Infiniti cried out in a panic.
Commanding my power to flow from me, I kept the cabins, the woods, and the
river clear in my mind. “Go there,” I whispered.
My skin warmed. My insides tingled. My body lifted off the ground. Opening my
eyes, I saw shades of gray and blue energy swirling about the room. The vapors
crackled with sparks. Heat started filling my airways. It was working.

Handler by Tish Thawer

Handler
by Tish Thawer
Publication Date: December 19, 2017
Our world was perfect––until we broke the law: Don't go out at night.

Utopian by day, dystopian by night; this is the world I recently discovered. I now struggle with the fact that our whole society has been based on a lie. There's only one way to change it––conquer the darkness we've all been raised to fear.

Live the lie; fight to the death; become a Handler. It's the only way.

A sci-fi/dystopian novel.

It seems I’ve found another author I will be stalking in the near future. (OK...not literally because that is illegal. Her book though....I definitely need more of this in my life!!) This is the 2nd book I’ve read by Tish Thawer & this is the 2nd time she has blown me away.

Looking for a whole new take on dystopian end of the world where humanity is on the line? Look no further. What begins as a cool utopian world quickly takes a few turns toward something totally different & engaging. We’re talking layers upon layers of action packed discoveries. My mind leapt from one possibility to the next as the scenarios played out. Thawer was a step ahead the entire time though, & I was impressed.
The characters are not dull or ordinary. Their world a complete mystery to be unveiled. Even when it seems to be piecing together we are diverted with another twist. And...when the truth begins screaming from the dwinn tops you will want to listen, & follow to the end. Where I was begging for any little glimpse of what is yet to come.

I can’t wait to see what happens next!Handlers is a must read!!! And I will be on the lookout for its sequel!
