 My Review:

5 Stars
This story is terrific! My daughters love it as much as I do! Dreamania is a magical place that every lil' princess can appreciate! My favorite being the unicorns of course! ;*) My 10 year old enjoyed reading it while her lil' sister listened by her side. She says her favorite part was when she opened the box her Grandmother gave her to find such a special gift hiding inside. Was it all just a dream? Well...we won't ruin the ending for you. Go find out!

Kiah's Soul-Shifting Journey: 1 The Quadrant War
Blurb:                                   Sixteen-year-old Kiah and her family struggle to survive in this dystopian society, formerly known as the United States of America. Citizens experience extreme loss and devastation, and Kiah is no exception. Although she doesn't grasp the reasons for The Quadrant War, she clearly understands the impacts of the war. Hope of peace and freedom is nonexistent, until Kiah begins to view her soul-shifting ability as a source of powerful guidance rather than just something else that makes her awkward. With the help of her first love, she's on a journey to fulfill her destiny. Soul-shifting reveals important knowledge that sometimes comforts her and at other times terrifies her. Will Kiah fall prey to the overseer and his forces, or will she triumph and see her life and the lives around her changed forever?

Excerpt:
"Where exactly is ..." Frank's question trailed off unfinished as he noticed the small stone structure. The man was standing by a sturdy-looking wooden door. As Frank approached, he could see an intricate carving—which almost seemed to be burned into the wood—depicting a strange symbol he'd never seen. It was a five-pointed star with the image of what appeared to be the head of a goat inside. Two circles surrounded this odd emblem, one touching the points of the star, the other was larger. There were more markings between the two circles, each one near a point of the star.
The man pulled the heavy door open and beckoned Frank to come inside. The interior of the building was dimly lit by two iron candelabras hanging from the vaulted ceiling by long chains, giving the chamber an ancient feel as if it belonged somewhere in the middle ages. When the man closed the door to the outside it added to this effect.
"This way, please," he said as he went to a nearly solid metal gate. It creaked open and revealed a stone staircase leading into the ground. Torches flickered at intervals along the way, casting their shadows in a way that made them look like they belonged to something inhuman.
Frank wondered where he was being led. This didn't seem like a place Candice was likely to hang out, and the further down the stairs he went the more he had the urge to turn around and run. Their footfalls continued to echo eerily in the passage until they finally reached a large chamber at the bottom.
Torches blazed all around the outer edge of the enormous room. Hanging on the far wall was another rendition of the symbol from the door leading outside, only this one was much bigger. So large, in fact, that it took up almost the entire wall. In front of the huge tapestry bearing this emblem was a bald man wearing a black robe, standing behind what appeared to be some sort of church-like altar draped with a blood red cloth.
As the two of them crossed the chamber, the bald man regarded them with furrowed brows. "Brother. Who is the outsider you have brought here?" he asked in a booming voice.
"I didn't catch his name, but I found him in the woods. He was asking about your daughter."

~ Lucian Barnes ~
I spent most of my youth in rural Ohio and began writing stories at an early age. Many of these early attempts at story-telling were inspired by mysteries, such as those found in the old Hardy Boys books and the cartoon antics of Scooby Doo. As I entered my teenage years I began to drift away from writing stories, instead picking up my pencil to compose lyrics for heavy metal songs because my new dream was to become a musician. That vision remained hopeful for many years after my high school graduation, but like most dreams of this nature it died out as I became older.

After working several menial jobs through the years that followed, my thoughts again began to turn toward writing books. Inspired by my favorite author, Stephen King, I took an online creative writing course and slowly began to develop my skills. In late 2010 I was given a violent shove, both by the job market (which was horrible to say the least, and still is) and by the persistent encouragement of close friends, to pick up my pen and begin writing again.

In early 2012 I gave birth (that's almost what it felt like) to my very first published book, Desolace. Finally having a completed novel in my hand was the best feeling in the world for me, giving me a sense of accomplishment I had waited a lifetime for. Since then it has gotten easier for me with each book I have published. Since the initial release of Desolace two more of my novels have been published and another has just been completed. This last work is the first book I've written outside of the Desolace Series, an occult horror novel titled Destined for Darkness. Also in production is my current novel, City of the Dead, which will be the fourth installment of the Desolace Series and is projected to be released in September of 2013.
