The Coolest Way To Kill Yourself Blog Tour

The Coolest Way To Kill Yourself
by Nicholas Tanek
October 7, 2013
Okay. So no one actually kills themselves in this book.

The Coolest Way to Kill Yourself pulls you into the early 90's New York City rave scene, in all its chaotic, psychedelic glory. The narrator grabs you by your wrist and drags you behind two teenage lovers from New Jersey as they tumble through a whirlwind of reckless hedonism that eventually spirals into a dark, devastating world of drug addiction and heartbreak.

As a teenager, Lynn cried, "No one is ever going to write something for me." Nearly two decades later, in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, Nicholas did just that. The gesture came too late for our unlikely heroine, but his heart was in the right place. A broken heart... but a true love. Reunited after years apart, Lynn and Nicholas embraced their love and sexuality, and embraced each other, despite troubled pasts, despite illness, despite all of their imperfections and mistakes. They shared the kind of honest and shameless connection that few have had the honor of knowing, and most would never understand.

"We're not hurting anyone. We're just living life without caring what anyone thinks about us."

"It's the coolest way to kill ourselves," Lynn said.

So turn the page, and pull the trigger.

If you could be anywhere in the world right now where would you be?
I would be with Lynn… anywhere with her. I would love it if we were back in our apartment in Spotswood, NJ. Since that is impossible. I would love to go to Europe. I would love to see London, Paris, and Spain.

As a child what did you want to be when grown up?
A writer or someone who was involved with television, film or art.

What is your favorite part of being an author?
The rush of creativity. There is a part of the book titled “The Power Of Writing” and it is about that glorious feeling and the rush of creative energy when writing. When I am writing, I am a happier person. I get excited. I pace around and talk about the project with the person I am working with. In the book, that person was Lynn. When I wrote The Coolest Way to Kill Yourself, that person was my editor. I love the creative process. I love writing. I feel better about myself if I am being creative. Since I write from real experiences, I love trying to use creative ways to tell the story. The Coolest Way to Kill Yourself has a unique structure. I loved working on the creative process of telling the story in a way that is unlike many other books. Most of all, my favorite part of being an author is that inspiring creative high.

What made you decide to be a ghost writer?
I always have a need to write. Many times, I cannot put my name on it. Many times, I do not want to put my name on it. It is really just a way to make some money by writing.

Do you have an author that you consider your mentor?
If you are speaking about any author at all, I would say that I like to read Hunter S. Thompson. As a writer, I think he is so magnificently wild and free. He seemed to be “enlightened” in many ways. He had an unforgettable personality.

What was the last book you read or are reading now?
A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole

Is there anything you would like your readers to know about you?
The Coolest Way to Kill Yourself is a love story. The book does not promote, condone, or poke fun at suicide. It is about people who are dealing with many dark issues like depression, drug addiction, and abuse. Still, there is a true love story at the heart of the book. This book was written for love. It is a tribute to the love of my life. It also is a document about the New York City rave scene in the early 90’s. The book is also about sexual expression and the bond that is formed when lovers are sexually honest with other. I am also working on a prequel. One more thing that I would like readers to know is that it is possible to survive and overcome drug addiction, depression, and abuse. It is possible to get a second chance at life. For me, this was possible because of love. This was possible because of the love that Lynn and I had for each other.

Book One in this series:
Something Great by M. Clarke
Blurb
She didn’t know what she was missing…until he found her.

Maxwell Knight was positively trouble, dangerously good-looking, and seductively charming. He was everything Jeanella didn’t need in her life. Only Maxwell didn’t see it that way. His pursuit was relentless, making her even more determined to push him away.

Fresh out of college, life was simple and plain for Jeanella Mefferd. Every part of her life was smooth sailing; her friends, her job, and even the guy she’d started dating. Then one night, while at dinner, she spotted someone who made her feel things she’d never felt before—dangerous, heart pounding and breathless heat. Thinking she would never see him again, she brushed it off, but when she started to run into him unexpectedly, all she could think of was how he made her feel with his sweet flirtations. Everything about Maxwell Knight screamed trouble, especially when she found out he was her new boss’s son. Now, heading to a New York fashion show, would she be able to focus on her career instead of Maxwell, who had been scheduled to attend with her? As much as she tried to forget their encounters, his good looks, smooth words and determination to win her over gravitated her toward him. The next thing she knew, her mind was utterly consumed by him. Would she be willing to ignore all the dangerous signs and jump into his arms? Or would she miss out on the chance of finding something great?
