Jordan Shaw knows the only way to stop the man hunting her is to kill him. She also knows the other men who came after her are dead, some of their blood is on her hands, and she wouldn’t have survived this long without the help of the intriguing and secretive Chase Hudson. Even though she isn’t sure she can trust Chase, she believes she needs him to discover the truth. Two days before, life was pretty good as she backpacked around Europe with her best friend. Now, everything has changed and she may not even live through the night. What started as a summer trip of self-discovery has become a dangerous journey across three countries as Jordan is forced into a world few know exist and even fewer survive. A clandestine international organization that will let nothing stand in their way has put a price on her head. Despite all the uncertainty, there are two things that she is absolutely sure of; she has one chance to out-maneuver a world class killer, and she has to make that move right now.

Character Interview
Chase Hudson interview by Jordan Shaw

Where do you dream of traveling to and why? I would love to go to a remote island in Indonesia where I can stay in a hut, relax on the beach, and go fishing and scuba diving. Indonesia is one of the most incredible places on earth and to be able to take you there and show you what a magical place it is.

What was the scariest moment of your life? When I thought Vlad had captured or killed you at the Cathedral in Sevilla. I was doing everything I could to get to you as fast as I could, but I was worried I wouldn’t get there in time and that I would lose you.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be a Navy Seal or a fighter pilot. I loved GI Joe’s as a kid and became obsessed with being in the military. After my parents were killed I didn’t feel that something so structured would be the best fit for me. Plus, I was way too angry at the world and everyone in it to join an organization where I always had to do what someone told me.

What is your favorite meal? Steak. I love a nice, juicy, prime cut of meat that is cooked medium rare at most. Do you play any sports? You name it, I played it, American football, Soccer, baseball, track, basketball.

What do you do to unwind and relax? Scuba diving, fishing, anytime I am doing something that involves the ocean is when I am the most relaxed.

Morning Person? Or Night Person? How do you know? Doesn’t matter, both I suppose. If I need to be up early or late I am happy to do either. Whatever I need to do to get the job done that is what I do.

What would we find under your bed? You wouldn’t find anything, I don’t hide things under my bed. I have a safe for important things I want hidden from prying eyes and I also do not believe in clutter so if I ever have something that is useless enough to be stored under a bed I usually get rid of it.

What makes you happy? In the past, not much. Now? Being with you Jordan.

What one word best describes you? Determined.

Do you have a favorite quote, quip, or saying? What is it? Never back down. If you let someone try to tell you what to do or if you let a situation control you then you will fail. It may not be a big failure and it may not matter all the time, but at some point it will matter and you will be sorry that you gave up. You need to go big or go home and where I am from, home is not usually an option.

Is there a piece of advice that you have received that has really stuck with you? If so, what was it? Never quit. If you want something bad enough, if you work hard enough, and if you keep pushing toward your goal, you will attain it. Nothing feels better than succeeding when something is extremely difficult and you had to give it your all in order to get it done.

She has been to every location she describes in “Trigger” and some of the content is based on her own experiences while traveling. She met her husband, Chad, in the MBA program at Oregon State University. After getting married, they purchased and fully remodeled a house. It was Chad who encouraged, and then bribed her to write her first book, “Trigger.” He says that he very much enjoys watching the flat-screen he purchased as part of their deal.
