"One last piece of advice...stop undressing her with your eyes unless you wish to become better acquainted with my sword!" ~ Zane
Shadow Fire is a wonderful introduction to this young adult fantasy. Adventure, magic, romance, action, & suspense....this story has everything I was looking for.
There are plenty of worthy characters in this tale, but these I enjoyed the most:
Ashlyn, the "chosen" pure of body & heart who is sent on this quest to recover a stolen relic, proves herself to be more than expected. Never giving up even after confronting all of the monsters thrown in her path, she easily wins my vote. Her character grows up quickly maturing as she accepts her "sacrifice" knowing that no one has accomplished this task over so many years, but she has an unknown advantage, a protector to accompany her on her journey. Zane, the sexy mercenary hired by the town to escort Ashlyn on her quest, quickly catches our attention with his debonair ways. As much as I enjoyed Zane's character Taranis, the pathetic excuse for a pirate, won me over quite nicely. What is it about the renegades that lures us in!?! Oh and Shadow, Freya, & Loki of course!!!
The few thoughts that may not have flowed as smoothly for me were not very distracting as this story is fast paced & the attention to detail really kept me engaged.
I look forward to more entertainment by  Wheaton as I will definitely be reading more of the Light Chronicles & other works.

Kimber Leigh Wheaton
is a YA/NA author with a soft spot for sweet romance and is a member of Romance Writers of America.

She is married to her soul mate, has a teenage son, and shares her home with three dogs and four cats. No, she doesn’t live on a farm, she just loves animals. Her house is filled with dragons, though she does lament that they are the porcelain, non-flying variety.

Kimber Leigh is addicted to romance, videogames, superheroes, villains, and chocolate—not necessarily in that order. (If she has to choose, she’ll take a chocolate covered superhero!)

Her debut novel, Shadow Fire, is the first book in the Light Chronicles series. Watch for book two, Stolen Moon, a standalone sequel, coming August 2014.
